Don't Mess With Textbooks

Given Texas' huge constituency of school children, they purchase a large proportion of the nation's textbooks. As a result, Texas commands unbalanced market clout over the textbook-publishing industry. The recent controversy over the state's move to alter textbook history, that was skewed toward more right-wing and Christian beliefs, will now permanently affect the teachings of public school kids across the country.
